Why AMSOIL? | AMSOIL introduced the world's first synthetic motor oil for diesel engines in 1975. AMSOIL synthetic diesel oil was formulated to outperform conventional diesel oils on all counts. It was clear from the start that this innovative product would play a major role in engine performance and engine life. Today, AMSOIL synthetic diesel oils are synonymous with power and performance. They're tough, reliable and they withstand the devastating effects of severe-service towing and heavy hauling that destroy lesser oils. By reducing friction and guarding against wear, AMSOIL synthetic diesel oils increase fuel economy and help keep vehicles on the job, saving you money. Here are a few of the AMSOIL products special for diesels and some maintenance tips.

Diesel Injector Clean

Diesel engines operate at very high temperatures. Highly engineered injectors maintain these high temperatures with clearances of 1-3 microns. For comparison, a human hair is 70-100 microns. Even the smallest of deposits can lead to sticking or seizure reducing performance and fuel economy. AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean is specifically built to clean all kinds of diesel fuel injector systems, including high-pressure common-rail designs. It restores horsepower to your engine by lubricating the fuel pump and injectors, minimizing soot, and separating fuel from water.

Diesel Cold Flow

As temperatures drop, the natural wax within diesel fuel starts to crystalize, inhibiting fuel flow. AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow contains a powerful deicer to help maintain engine performance in cold temperatures. Diesel Cold Flow helps prevent the fuel from gelling, so the fuel continues to flow easily to the engine. It reduces the need to use #1 diesel fuel, which decreases fuel economy and horsepower.

Diesel Cetane Boost

Cetane is a liquid hydrocarbon that ignites easily under combustion. Using a base rate of 100, the cetane number is the standard measure of performance for compression ignition fuels, like diesel. Diesel engines operate best at cetane numbers of 50 or higher, but most diesel fuel sold has cetane values between 40 and 45. Putting Diesel Cetane Boost every time you fill up will increase your cetane level by 7 points. This cetane boost will maximize horsepower, increase fuel economy, and make for easier engine start-ups.

Keeping Your Diesel at Peak Performance

As with any engine, the key to longer-lasting, improved diesel performance is maintenance. Diesels do not need the ignition tune-ups and high-cost repairs that normal engines do, but they do require frequent attention for best results. Here are the key chores you should conduct on your diesel.

Cooling ; Air Systems

Your diesel runs at much higher temperatures than a gasoline motor, so the cooling and air systems are that much more vital to operation. An overheated diesel engine means serious trouble, so check your coolant level regularly and do not ignore the warning systems on your dashboard. Make sure to clean or replace your air filter to ensure unobstructed air flow.

Gaskets ; Seals

You may notice that diesel engines shake a lot. This trait is less pronounced in newer diesel engines, but it still holds true for older models. All that movement can cause parts to shift and dislodge. Check to make sure that gaskets and seals are still tight to identify and repair fluid leaks early.

Filters

Diesel fuel contains a number of contaminants and acidic components that wear on your engine. Filters and additives capture these particles and keep them from gumming up the works. Replace your oil and fuel filters regularly. Many diesels have two fuel filters, so be sure to check them both.

Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oil maintains its viscosity at the high temperatures of a diesel engine where conventional oil often breaks down. AMSOIL synthetic oil also contains alkaline additives that neutralize the acidic components of diesel fuel. For your diesel, synthetic oil better protects your engine and improves performance.
